Foundations of Yoga Asana Workshop

Mastering the Fundamental Poses of Yoga 

This immersive 2.5-hour workshop is designed to introduce participants to the fundamental principles and postures of yoga asanas. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to deepen your understanding of foundational poses, this session will provide you with the tools and knowledge to build a safe and effective yoga practice.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Introduction to Yoga Asanas (15 minutes):
    • Brief history and philosophy of yoga asanas.
    • Understanding the purpose and benefits of practicing asanas.
    • Introduction to the concept of alignment, breath, and movement in yoga.
  • Foundational Postures Breakdown (1.15 hour):
    • Standing Poses: Explore essential standing asanas such as Tadasana (Mountain Pose), Virabhadrasana I & II (Warrior I & II), and Trikonasana (Triangle Pose). Learn the fundamentals, modifications, and variations for each pose.
    • Seated Poses: Delve into key seated postures like Sukhasana (Easy Pose), Dandasana (Staff Pose), and Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend). Understand the significance of grounding and spine alignment in seated poses.
    • Balancing Poses: Practice balancing asanas like Virabhadrasana III (Warrior 3) and Garudasana (Eagle Pose). Gain insight into finding stability and focus through balance.
    • Supine and Prone Poses: Learn foundational backbends and core-strengthening postures such as Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose) and Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose). Understand the importance of protecting the spine and engaging the core.
  • Flow and Integration (30 minutes):
    • Vinyasa Flow: Experience how to link the foundational postures together in a gentle vinyasa flow. This segment focuses on breath awareness, smooth transitions, and cultivating a sense of mindfulness in movement.
  • Guided Relaxation  (15 minutes):
    • End the workshop with a soothing guided relaxation (Savasana)  to integrate the physical and mental benefits of the practice.
  • Q&A and Closing (15 minutes):
    • Open floor for questions, reflections, and personalised guidance from the instructor. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the foundational asanas and how to incorporate them into their daily practice.
